An Introduction
Hello Friend,
If you’re new here, I’m Dylan James — Photographer and Digital Creator from Fort Worth, TX.
Camera gear has always been a part of my life. I have vivid memories of my parents’ Canon AE-1 and Canon ES600 cameras during our family trips. At the time, I had no idea that fascination with cameras would eventually lead me to where I am today.
Fast forward to 2020, during the lockdown, when I found myself struggling with isolation and a deep sense of depression. I had let a lot of my hobbies fall by the wayside, and it wasn’t until the end of that year that I stumbled upon a community of photographers and filmmakers on YouTube. I dove deep into photography content—reviews, tips, tutorials—and after hours of research, I finally made the decision to invest in a Sony A7III and a Sigma 24-70mm lens.
From that moment, I was hooked. I took that camera everywhere with me. One day, a friend invited me to a local show, and I brought my new gear along, thinking I might snap a few shots of the bands. That night, I ended up taking 1,000 photos. I went home— culled them down to a few dozen, edited for hours, and when I sent them to the bands, they loved them. The invites to shoot more shows came more frequently, and soon, I was photographing live music every week. That’s when I realized I needed a name for this growing passion project—and so, Life in Snapshots was decided upon.
As I continued practicing, building my workflow, and connecting with new people, I started gaining confidence in my work. My photography expanded into portraits, sports, street & tourism photography. Along the way, I became deeply inspired by Vernacular Photography, which now forms the core of my approach to capturing life as it truly is—raw, honest, and full of energy.
For me, photography is about telling the story of your life as it unfolds—unfiltered and genuine. I want to create images that take you back to those moments, so you can relive them again and again, exactly as they were.
If you’ve been following my journey, you’ve probably noticed that my posting schedule has been… let’s say, inconsistent. After some thought, I decided to hit the reset button with a brand new Instagram account. Yes, I know—it’s been done before. But given recent changes in social media, I’ve decided to cut ties with some platforms and rethink how I engage with the online world moving forward. (I’ll share more on that later—vagueness intended.) I also have created new accounts across a vast amount of social media platforms that other creators are flocking to.
But for now, this website—lifeinsnapshots.com—will be my main platform for sharing content. It won’t be filtered or controlled by algorithms, and I’m committed to posting here consistently. If you enjoy my work, this is the best place to stay updated. Be sure to sign up for my newsletter to get direct email updates.
I realized I needed a fresh start. A clean slate. It’s something that’s necessary every so often. Regardless of the platform, I know I need to stay committed and consistent if I want to build something meaningful. So, if you’re here for the ride, welcome. I’m glad you’re joining me on this journey.
